ALFALFA, GRASS, COVER CROPS

We are pleased to have recently partnered with NorthStar Seed to provide our customers with a broad range of forage seed including Cover Crops, Alfalfa, Grasses, and custom forage blends.

Alfalfa & Alfalfa Only Blends

We have different varieties of alfalfa as well as alfalfa blends.  Our alfalfa seed contains only high purity and germination seed lots and are treated with Apron XL for improved seedling vigour.  Alfalfa blends are recommended if you have variable land as the different combination of alfalfa in each blend will help you maximize yield across your whole field.

  • TOP BLEND CHOICE FOR IRRIGATION:  Our irrigation choice  Alfalfa Blend 10-5.  10-5 is a unique blend of certified seed with 5 premium alfalfa varieties.  This is a blend that will do well in saline, wet or dry areas, or in areas of high traffic without compromising yield.
  • TOP BLEND CHOICE FOR DRYLAND:  Our dryland choice is Ultimate Dryland Blend.  This is a blend of two certified alfalfa varieties including 70% Runner (creeping root) and 30% Robust (tap root) to ensure stand strength and performance under dry conditions. We expect this variety will offer peak performance to southern Alberta and Saskatchewan growers on dryland.
  • TOP PURE ALFALFA CHOICE FOR IRRIGATED SILAGE:  Our recommended alfalfa for irrigated silage is Stealth SF fast growth Alfalfa.  This is one of the highest yielding alfalfas to ever go through the Canadian Western Forage tests.  It has good winter hardiness with a fall dormacy of 4 and winterhardiness level of 2.  It grows extremely quickly offering multiple cuts for increased production.  However, it needs to be intensively managed because of its very quick regrowth.  If baled, round bales are recommended over square bales to encourage quicker drying.

  • TOP PURE ALFALFA CHOICE FOR SALINITY ISSUES:  Our recommended alfalfa for saline soils is Rugged ST saline tolerant Alfalfa.  This is a very hardy variety with tolerance to increased salt levels.
